Taylor Harwood-Bellis had a glorious season with Burnley last term, helping his team to a solid promotion from The Championship, adding up a total of 101 points as The Clarets won the division in style. This term Harwood-Bellis was back out on loan from Man City to Southampton, finishing it all with a fantastic play-off final win that secured a straight return to Premier League for The Saints.
The competition for places at Man City is of course massive, but still moving this player on to Southampton for a fee of £20million, could be as strange as the sale of Cole Palmer to Chelsea.
Harwood-Bellis is 22 years of age and has a total od 23 U.21 caps for England. He has not yet featured in the England first team, something we believe he will very soon, as those roles are up for grabs with John Stones, Harry Maguire and Eric Dier all coming to an age that makes it possible to give them all a challenge.
This season he played 40 league games and in total over all competitions his tally is 45. He has progressed and if Man City are ready to let him leave permantly and not be eager to keep him around, don’t be surprised if newly appointed Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany will come around, very soon, to try to lure the young defender to sign for the German giant in the future.
Last summer, Harwood-Bellis played for England in the 2023 UEFA European Under-21 Championship, and won the tournament, beating Spain 1–0 in the final. He was probably using his experience from that tournament win, when defeating Leeds at Wembley this afternoon, being one of the important defenders in a very difficult game, being a lot under pressure for most of the minutes played.
Interesting future and of course a special summer for the quality defender, being described as a Rolls Royce in this Southampton team, being able to step up to Premier League football for the first timen next season.
The official report is out:
Southampton will sign Manchester City loanee Taylor Harwood-Bellis on a permanent deal for £20million following their play-off final win over Leeds United. Promotion for Russell Martin’s side triggered an obligation to buy clause in the 22-year-old’s St Mary’s contract.
