Youri Tielemans (27) made his move to Aston Villa from Leicester on a free transfer one and half year ago. He had just experienced a relegation with Leicester, one coming out of thin air after a very turbulent time under Brendan Rodgers, not able to tie down any of his special men, such as Tielemans, Maddison and Ndidi, all reluctant at the time, to stay on and sign a new long term deal.
The move to Aston Villa happened and Tielemans did not really make an instant impact, being a bit on the fringe in the start, but surely showing his worth as the season ran into it’s final quarter.
Aston Villa manager Unai Emery knew the quality he had in Tielemans, making him a certain starter this season, as space were made, selling Douglas Luiz to Juventus. Tielemans became a starting option and has delivered on a high note.
He has played from start in every single game so far, helping Villa to a 9th position at the time, but with a very close distance to the top four positions, only 6 points behind as the season goes into a vital period.

Tielemans started his career at Anderlecht, touted to be one of the most exciting midfield talent of this era. He made his debut for Anderlecht in 2013, at the age of 17, and was on their books until 2017, when he joined Monaco, for a fee of €25 million. His time in France never really turned out as well as he would have liked, as a loan move to Leicester was arranged. He became an instant hit under Claude Puel, but the team continued to struggle, as Tielemans had to experience a fast change in management, Puel getting the sack and Brendan Rodgers being appointed. Tielemans managed to build on the change as he became one of the most important players under the years of Brendan Rodgers.
He is on 74 caps, scoring 9 goals for Belgium, at times also captain of the national team. He is a bronze medalist from the 2018 World Cup.
Among his merits of course to remember his wonderful winning goal for Leicester in the 2021 FA Cup final. He is at his best one of the brightest talents in the game, but can at times show a lower level far from the heights we do like to remember.
