Norwegian international, Elise Thorsnes (36), made the headlines for special reasons, 11 years ago. A picture of a sports injury in a somewhat intimate place, was highly noted. The picture she posted of herself on Twitter, was all over in different media channels and received great attention.
This is probably a bit unfair, to just remember her for this, since she has a proud and grand career in the game and still perform at the highest level for Vålerenga.
She has a grand career in the game of women soccer, wiht a tally of 130 caps, scoring 21 goals. She made her debut in the national team 18 years ago. A win today could see her win the league again, as she did with Vålerenga also last season.
They are huge favourites in this game vs. Kolbotn, currtenly 8th in the table of 10 teams. Thorsnes could add more goals to her tally of 8 so far this season as another trophy will be collected.
She was multitalented, doing a number of sports, such as athletics, handball, skiing and football. She managed to become junior Norwegian champion in the shot put before she chose to just concentrate on football.
On 26 August 2020, she passed Sigurd Rushfeldt as the highest-scoring player at the top level in Norwegian football. Rushfeldt had the record of 172 goals, but after scoring two goals against Klepp, Thorsnes was up to 174 goals. She became top scorer in Avaldsnes with eight goals in a season that ended with bronze in Toppserien 2020.
On 18 December 2020, she signed a two-year contract with reigning league champions Vålerenga. 2021 did not turn out quite as neither Vålerenga nor she had hoped for. For Thorsnes, the season was partly ruined by injuries, and the team finished in 4th place in the series. But the season ended with victory in the cup final and Thorsnes thus took his sixth NM gold with his fifth club. On 2 October 2022, she scored two goals against Rosenborg, and with that passed 200 goals in the Toppserien. In the 2022 season, she became top scorer in the Toppserien for the fourth time.
In November 2022, she signed a new two-year contract with Vålerenga. During the 2023 season, she was retrained from striker to centre-back. She became league champion for the fifth time with her fourth club when Vålerenga won the league gold in 2023.
She looks to add yet another league trophy to her list of honours this afternoon, beeing one of the most iconic female footballers in Norwegian football as well as the women game in total.
