Gabriel arrived at Arsenal from Lille in 2020. He was transferred for a total fee of £27m. His debut in the Arsenal shirt came just a number of days later, scoring a goal in the 3-0 battering of Fulham at Craven Cottage. He made 23 Premier League appearances in his first season, scoring 2 goals.
Since that first season he has settled in really well and looks as one of the best central defenders in the Premier League as Arsenal will need his full presence to push for a potential league title win.
So far he has played 139 Premier League games for Arsenal and scored 16 goals. His total tally of games is 178 with 17 goals. He is strangely not regarded as a captain alternative at the club with Martin Odegaard, Declan Rice, Jorginho and a few other players in front.
Born in Brazil, he has to date 11 caps, being seen as the best player on the field in the 4-0 win vs. Peru, yesterday. He is at the moment one of the most valuable players around in the game of football.
Arsenal will most certainly be approached by other clubs and not be surprised if giants such as Real Madrid, Barcelona, Man Utd and Man City will be entering the stage to try to get the Brazilian on the hook.
It will be interesting to follow his pathway going forward as more interesting games will take place with a return to Premier League action this weekend.
Looking back you have a number of fantastic defenders to compare with. Tony Adams, Steve Bould and Martin Keown had a long life at Arsenal and will possibly be the three to really compary him with. Per Mertesacker, Sol Campbell, David O’Leary and Frank McLintock are other legends of the central defence.
