Erik ten Hag has been under heavy critisism this season, not being able to build on his first season in charge at Man Utd, but still managed the unthinkable, to defeat Man City in the final of the FA Cup.
The current changes at the club bringing in Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his team this season has of course been a disturbance as they have no credibilty in English football and of course having certain ideas of how they would like their team to compete.
The most important in football is to win and what did happen out on the Wembley grass today, was a pragmatic approach, with a special plan to just be able to use the chances being made against a team that were huge favourites and probably a bit ignorant towards their opponent.
Kobi Mainoo (19) and Alejandro Garnacho (19) became the important men in the final, scoring the goals as they set up Man Utd to a 2-0 lead, before Jeremy Doku late 2nd half scored the only Man City goal, with a 2-1 win for MU in the end.
What has been achieved is no more than fantastic and also with former England manager Steve McClaren in the dugout at Wembley, two fantastic football brains found the formula how to win a final against Pep and his unbeatable armada.
To see the progress of the new generation of Man Utd players, you just cannot understand why a manager bringing in 7 points less than Jurgen Klopp did last season, is under some sort of pressure. Erik ten Hag has guided Man Utd into the Europa League this season and last season bringing Champions League to Old Trafford, so a shame to see him under such pressure. Strange to see that a clubs glorious history gives a person problems as he surely cannot be judged on his achievements.
Man Utd is not depending on Erik ten Hag to get results going forward, but to get the respect inside the game and not again look like clowns in football, people such as Sir Jim Ratcliffe and other novices of this game and profession, should be careful and humble moving forward.
Their big heads and business success can sometimes give them a thought that they know better and will with this type of leadership over time loose the respect inside the game. So far no one has been very much impressed by their work at Nice. Bringing in old players from English football and not really understanding the trade of this business. Since the takeover of Nice, they have not managed to bring the project forward. Nice is at this point seeking a new manager and it looks a bit in the air. They finished 5th this season, which is an improvement from last season, being 9th. But it looks very much still water, since their takeover back in 2019. Changing managers looks as their answer to every problem, instead of building a fundament of trust, belief and understanding. Patrick Viera, Adrian Ursea, Christophe Galtier, Lusien Favre and Francesco Farioli are all prevous Nice managers gone in this short time. If this settlement starts their new life at Man Utd with a sacking of Erik ten Hag, you will probably see a new clown act in play at The Theatre of Dreams.
We certainly hope Man Utd will go into next season with a long term approach and not again tear down everything that the current group of management has build up. Football today is very transparent and if you are not able to bring forward your own talents, and have a solid squad logistic that will see it possible to offload and bring in the correct type of players season by season, you will not be able to compete with the best over longer periods. Man Utd do not need to stress, they are in good health and bring home trophies and good results, but by judging your life in a historical perspective you have a strange and meaningsless approach as it has no preferance.
The choice of playing Sofyan Amrabat today was the most clever move done by Erik ten Hag, as it gave the Morocco international a chance to show his worth. He has often been described in negative words by many, being trashed by those who believe they know much more than others, as they today should leave their microphones and walk home. They do just talk up what they see and the analytical approach and long term picture often overlooked. Amrabat became the first ever Moroccan to win the FA Cup. We have waited for this, but it might be too late for Man Utd, again losing out on an important deal.
