Man City are World Champions, defeating Fluminense 4-0 in the final on Friday. They came through without playing Erling Haaland, missing out because of injury, being in the travelling party, but not touching the ball.
He has missed recent games vs. Luton (PL), Urawa Red Diamonds (WC), Fluminense (WC), Red Star (CL) and Crystal Palace (PL). He made a public update recntly, showing an hour-glass, so still not ready for a return, not yet.
He was in his best “Christmas Suit” wishing everyone the best from his own X account. He looked well up to the job, and we all know how he can score goals and entertain, so to see him as Santa was probably no surprise, at least he is one for Man City fans, probably would have seen him in sky blue and not red.
Looking at the stats so far, the counts are; He has played 15 times in Premier League, scoring 14 goals, having 4 assists. His tally in Champions League is 5 appearances, 5 goals and 1 assist. You can add 2 Carabao Cup games to his total, scoring 1 goal in that tournament. This is what you would “sensational figures” and not to worry.
What that could worry is the injuries Haaland picks up and that the team suffer when he is not playing. They managed to win away to Luton, but had to see themselves in a 2-2 draw vs. Crystal Palace, not having Haaland to call on, so the team is different without their goalscorer in there.
He has also played for Norway this year, with 6 caps to his name and 6 goals scored. In total he is on 27 goals in 29 caps, and on a run that most certainly will break a long time record of Jorgen Juve, being the top national goalsorer for Norway with 35 goals in total. Everyone is waiting for Erling Haaland to break the record, standing since 1934, when Juve scored his last goal for Norway, using in 30 games to score 35 goals. Juve played 45 times for Norway, but did not score in his last 10, mainly due to the fact that he had been pushed back to play in defence.
Woud be surprised if Haaland is to end up as a central defender, after settling all records, but you never know in football, everything can happen as we have seen with many players being changed from a position to another.
