Norway is a nation with a long and special football history. A small nation in regards of population, and in that light the 2-1 win at home vs. England in 1981 stands out as one monumental result.
Tom Lund played in that game and was a notable Norwegian player known for his great pace, assists and goal-scoring ability.
The sad news of Tom Lund’s passing at 75 is very emotional. His legacy will live on with our great memories as well as being remembered of his presence, having his statue outside Aaraasen in Lillestrom. He only played for Lillestrom and helped the club become strong during the 70s and 80s. He later became head coach at the club for two seperate periods, from 1985 ro 1987 and later from 1990 to 1991.
He won the league and cup both as a player and coach for his club Lillestrom.
As a player he was praised by many. England manager Ron Greenwood, said he was up there with the best. Scotland head coach Willie Ormond described him in the same words. A legendary trainer at Lillestrom, Joe Hooley, praised his best player, probably knowing his success was basically made with Tom Lund in his team.
