To be a fan of Arsenal requires patience, as it has been 24 years since they last won the Premier League. Arsenal holds a unique record, having finished as runners-up three times in a row twice: from 1998 to 2001 and again from 2022 to 2025. They were also runners-up in 2015/16, totaling 17 times in that position.

They won the title this season after losing it last season. A few changes were made. Here’s a summary.

The first major change to see happen, was the change of the assistant manager, bringing in Gabriel Heinze in that position. His background as a winner and previously having won this title while at Man Utd could be what turned it around for a team that has a habit of ending second.

Heinze (48) has the manager experience from several clubs before joining Arsenal as an assistant. Most recently Newell’s Old Boys and Atlanta United. His experience must be seen as influential, valuable, and crucial for this season’s journey.

Transfers are something to address, both in and out. To bring in seven new players is a major change. Kepa Arrizabalaga arrived from Chelsea (£5.0m), Martín Zubimendi from Real Sociedad (£55.8m), Christian Nørgaard in from Brentford (£12.0m), Noni Madueke making his switch from Chelsea, (£48.5m), Cristhian Mosquera, arriving from Valencia (£16.5m). Viktor Gyökeres, joined from Sporting (£55.0m) and last, England international, Eberechi Eze (£67,5m) from Crystal Palace.

These are heavy investements with a number of these players being influential in the ride to this special Premier League Championship.

If you look at the players leaving the club last summer or during the season, Arsenal must be said to have done one of the largest upgrades ever and really bolstered every part of their departments. Nuno Tavares left to join Lazio (£7.6m). Marquinhos joined Cruzeiro for as little as £3.0m. Albert Sambi Lokonga moved to German club Hamburg for £2.6m. Oleksandr Zinchenko to Ajax for £1.3m.

A very successful transfer window, will always influence your results and it also shows that with this type of double cover in every department, you can compete in both Premier League and Champions League.

Martin Odegaard had spells on the sidelines during the season. This should normally have led to negative trend in results, but the club managed to cover without him, which is one scenario of the past, not being able to fill the gaps if influential players are out injured. Bukayo Saka and Eberechi Eze are other players that have struggled with injuries during the season. With proper cover it was possible to keep it running with good results.

The Gunners will work to gain momentum for the Champions League final next Saturday against the defending champions, PSG.
