Despite the fact that the United owner himself is one of Great Britain’s most financially powerful people, he considered getting Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk to invest in the Premier League club’s project.
Daily Mail claims that Ratcliffe wanted the two well-known entrepreneurs to invest in United’s new stadium facility.
Old Trafford is getting very tired and badly needs an upgrade. This will cost approximately two billion pounds, which Ratcliffe is said to have requested assistance with.
“He may be the richest man in Britain, but a report from Daily Mail.
According to the report, Ratcliffe felt either of the world famous billionaires could be tempted by the draw of United. Finances would hardly be an issue for either man; Tesla chief Musk’s net worth is thought to be around £387.5bn according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, and Amazon’s Bezos worth £196.1bn. The Athletic, though, write that it is ‘unclear’ if those proposals ever gained the necessary traction.
It has previously been reported that the recent increase in ticket prices as well as the option of selling naming rights for the ground had been considered to raise money for a new stadium project.
He has also held talks with the government about the option of public funding, while he also has the option of selling part of his INEOS stake to raise capital.
Chief Operating Office Collette Roche is believed to be key to any plans around the stadium, and is becoming an increasingly prominent figure at the club, having taken over staffing, security and travel duties.
Ratcliffe however appears to be determined to build a new stadium and bring the club’s infrastructure into the modern day, especially at a time when Manchester City’s Etihad stadium is aiming to become a key venue in the north. Easy to understand why Sir Jim is eager to get the club into a new era, but still to leave Old Trafford would be a tall change, and of course a very emotional and difficult matter to handle.

Reports are that mouse droppings has been discovered on a recent visit to Old Trafford by health inspectors before the club was slapped with a two-star hygiene ratings. There have also been notable pictures in the past 12 months of leaks in the Old Trafford roof, in particular after the home defeat by Arsenal last season.
The problem has led to the hygiene rating for food service at Old Trafford falling to two out of five stars. It is true that no traces of mice or mouse droppings have been found in the relevant kitchens where food is prepared, but the health authorities have nevertheless taken measures. A spokesperson for the district of Trafford confirms that the hygiene at the stadium has been downgraded, but says they are working closely with Man Utd to improve the situation.
United, under Ruben Amorim’s fresh management, suffered a stinging 0-3 defeat at home to Bournemouth on Sunday. During the following press conference, water dripped from the roof and hit the journalists in the front row.
To see the club under their new leadership considering whether Old Trafford should be renovated or whether the club should build a new stadium, will of course be a matter of discusson.
