The story of Uruguay international Edinson Cavani, is one fantastic. He joined Boca Juniors last summer on a contract running until December 2024. So far he has scored 6 goals in 14 league appearances. Boca Juniors are currently 5th in the table, on 13 points after 8 games. Edinson has scored 3 goals in 5.
Edinson scored his first three goals this season in the recent 3-2 win vs. Belgrano. This shows that the Uruguay international with 136 caps to his name, still can deliver at a high level.
We first did see his talent in European football while at Palermo. From 2007 to 2011, he played here, before taking his next step to Napoli in 2010 on loan, and a year later signing a permant deal with the Serie A club, and entering a stage of high notice.
Then in 2013, PSG came calling. He had grand stats from his days at Napoli, scoring 78 league goals in 104 games, what a fantastic tally. PSG also became a succes netting 138 goals in 200 league games.
During his time at PSG he won 6 league titles and 5 cup winner medals, before making a move to Manchester United and Premier League. Still one player that demanded high standards and bringing new goals to the table, 12 in 41 league games, also collecting a Europa League runners-up medal while at Old Trafford.
He decided to play on and joined Valencia in the Spanish top flight, scored another 5 goals in 21 league games in La Liga, before making his next move to Boca Juniors.
Edinzon Cavani and Boca Juniors looks a good fit, looking as it will be a climb together towards the top in a new league. Cavani has not been involved in any internationals for Uruguay since the 2022 World Cup, but he is still available for selection, with new boss Marcelo Bielsa, possibly looking for younger players, but goals scored would be above age, so we will wait and see.
