Luka Modric is still providing moments of great joy to the Real Madrid fans. The 38-year-old midfielder scored a late winning goal as the ‘Merengues’ claimed a crucial La Liga win against Sevilla.

Real Madrid claimed three golden points against Sevilla to extend their lead over second-placed Girona to six points. The ‘Merengues’ created chances but failed to break the deadlock until late in the second half, when Luka Modric beat Nyland with a thunderbolt from outside the area.

Moreover, many fans said on social media that the Croatian midfielder’s winning goal was reminiscent of the one he scored at Old Trafford against Manchester United when the Red Devils were eliminated in the last 16 of the Champions League by Los Blancos.

Although the one-time Ballon d’Or winner’s continuity at the Spanish club is still up in the air due to his age, Luka Modric enjoyed another magical night at the Santiago Bernabeu as if he were a teenager.

It wasn’t exactly a case of ‘No Jude Bellingham, no problem’ for Madrid, but in a season in which their new star has delivered in so many clutch moments, it was perhaps fitting that one of the old guard stepped up in his absence.

Luka Modric is set to leave Madrid at the end of the season, and vacate that famous number 10 shirt in the process. With Jude Bellingham back soon, there does not appear to be any stopping Los Blancos’ title charge.

An honourable mention for Lunin, but it is Modric who stole the show with that sensational winner, which was his only shot of the game. He had 30 touches, and completed 20 of his 21 passes. At 38 years and 169 days old, Modric became the second oldest player to score from outside of the box in LaLiga since the 2003-04 campaign, after Jorge Molina.
