Football management is a strange business, one day you get the sack, the next you are wanted somewhere else. This has been the route for Tony Mowbray, the former central defender of Middlesbrough, Celtic and Ipswich.

Since leaving the game as a player, he had a brief caretaker spell at Ipswich and from 2002 been involved in the manager trade every since, doing this job at Hibs, West Brom, Celtic, Middlesbrough, Coventry, Blackburn and Sunderland, before taking charge of The Blues on the 8th of January, replacing Wayne Rooney.

The posh style and high profile appointment of Wayne Rooney, did not work out at all, as football is so much more than just having a face on the wall, marketing jippo’s and clicks on social media, it’s all very far from the real World of football.

Tony Mowbray must be a man so far from Wayne Rooney’s image that he looks the total opposite, the full contrast. So owners at this club looks to have little or no knowledge of the game at all, sacking John Eustace for certain reasons, Wayne Rooney got the boot based on lack of results.

Early doors but still some hope as Tony Mowbray is unbeaten in his first two games, a 2-2 home draw to Swansea in the league and yesterday winning the replay game in the FA Cup 3rd round vs. Hull, 2-1.

Birmingham looks to have a grand squad of players as they ringed the changes for that FA Cup 3rd round game and still having the power to win, with goals from subs Stansfield and Miyoushi, turning the game in Birmingham’s favour late in stoppage time.

It will be exciting to watch going forward as 4th round of the FA Cup will be played away to Leicester on the 27th of January, with league fixtures vs. Stoke (away) and Middlesbrough (home) before.

It will be interesting to see how Tony Moiwbray will build his team as systems were changed from a 4-3-2-1 vs. Swansea, to a straight 4-4-2 in the match vs. Hull, and of course making five crucial changes on the hour mark as he managed to turn it around.
