Sweden are at the moment in a bit of limbo between picking experienced players such as Robin Olsen, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Emil Forsberg all above 30, and Zlatan as we all know in his early 40’s.
National team coach Janne Andersson is under pressure and has been questioned heavily after the recent internationals regarding different selection issues, getting hot and hitting former Man Utd and Plymouth midfielder Bojan Djordjic with disrespectful words.
Viktor Johansson was included in the Swedish squad for their latest internationals, after a heroic season at Rotherham, and also being voted player of the season at his club.
Rotherham did manage to survive in the Championship, ending 19th having a 6 point gap down to the three treams relegated. Victor Johansson had a lot to do with The Millers saving themselves, playing 43 league games, only missing 3 of the total 46.
His stats are special and shows what he can do and will of course be followed by several clubs and could of course soon become a hot transfer object as his impressive performances have been noticed.
Johansson joined Rotherham from Leicester in 2020 getting released at the end of that season, and not regarded worthy a longer deal, having joined from Aston Villa in 2018.
Robin Olsen is the first choice for Sweden, but his age and current club situation could see Johansson soon being given a debut to compete with the experienced former Copenhagen shot stopper.
He has played at Sweden U.21, U.19 and U.17 level in the past, so always been regarded highly, but this season must be seen as the best so far and of course given his major breakthrough and so far cementing a place in the Rotherham goal at the age of 24.
