Real Madrid were expected to reach the Champions League final this season, especially after a draw in the semi-final first leg vs. Bayern Munich. But to see Juselu as the hero of this team in the return fixture at The Bernabeu was far from an expected story.
Juselu came on as a sub on both occasions, but had no say in the goal away in Munich. But what happened at home, was a fantastic and very special happening.
Alphonso Davies gave Bayern Munich the lead in the 68th minute, him also a sub on the day. The 1-0 lead held until the 88th minute when Juselu striked first. Then into stoppage time everything exploded as the 34 year old scored his 2nd on the day and secured the final spot for Real Madrid.
What a story and again showing that mature players in their 30’s can perform at the very highest level having their bodies in shape and looking after themselves. Juselu joined Real Madrid from Espanyol on loan in June last year. He was previously a player at Real Madrid from 2011 to 2012, having a 100% league record, scoring 1 goal in 1 game.
This is a true fairystory and one that in real makes no sense, as the former Hoffenheim, Stoke and Newcastle forward never looked a player to score the vital goals for this club reaching the final of Champions League, to be 34, makes it almost insane.
But you shall never underestimate Carlo Ancelotti, few does, he knows his clever acts and how to build winning structures and can see certain patterns and changes to be done to get his teams into the correct frame.
No one will argue that signing Juselu looked a strange and special move, but it has been repaid in billions as the striker of strikers, Michael Kane, again must go home and watch the Champions League final on tv.
Juselu’s club Espanyol is currently in a 4th position in Secunda Division, they are certain of playing in the play off’s, but still far from promotion at this stage. Juselu himself will hope for a new chance in the all white shirt, when the final vs. Borussia Dortmund is scheduled, all of us looking forward to the final of this tournament, taking place on Wembley on the 1st of June.
