31 year old Niclas Fullkrug is one of the top stars of Bundesliga, scoring goals for Borussia Dortmund, joining from Werder Bremen in 2023. Still mountains to climb in Bundesliga for his club, but the contribution from Fullkrug is so far 12 in 28 league games, 2 in 10 in Europe, one of them, that fantastic header in the quarter finals vs. Atletico Madrid.
His goalscoring ratio for Germany is one to recognize, 11 goals in 15 appearances. He could be that vital weapon for his nation when they on home soil will be eager to show their worth.
Borussia Dortmund has had a struggle in Bundesliga, seeing another disastrous result in their recent away game to RB Leipzig. Jadon Sancho giving Dortmund an early lead, but it was not build on as RB came back and scored 4 goals, leaving Fullkrug and his teammates in a bad place after this game.
Dortmund are currently 5th in the Bundesliga table and could miss out on Champions League next season, with that potentially only to happen, if reaching the final this season.
Fullkrug made his full international debut back just before the 2022 World Cup finals, playing Oman in a friendly, and has since gone from strength to strength. He was a young and promising player at Werder Bremen making his debut for Die Grün-Weißen as far back as 2012, but was loaned out to Greuter Furth and later moved to Nurnberg and Hannover before returning to Werder Bremen in 2019, scoring 45 goals in 90 Bundesliga games.
He was not much recognized outside Germany before his national team debut, but has since been a name to look for as his skills in front of goal is a fascinating watch. He looks certain to play an important part of Julian Nagelsmann and Die Mannschaft when they take part in the Euro’s this summer.
There have in different chapters of the national team been a number of strong tall build forwards in their set-up, such as Horst Hrubesch, Dieter Hoeness and Oliver Bierhoff. Niclas Fullkrug comes into that category as the 1.89m well build forward will most certainly show his presence in that vital semi-final return vs. Atletico Madrid as well as being very much in place for this summer’s Euro’s.
