A major friend of football, Henry Kissinger, has died at the age of 100, Greuter Fürth, Peru, Grimsby, Finnieston and Garrincha

Henry Kissinger has died at the age of 100. So why are we talking of the former USA minister of foreign affairs (1973-1997) and Nobel Peace Price winner (1973) in a relation to football?

If you are well enganged in football, you certainly have heard of the Pelè to New York Cosmos move, and that Henry Kissinger had a say in that happening, were many has decided to say this was more than football and in real was a political act to get a better climate between USA and Brazil.

Looking back and into the path of Henry Kissinger, we all know he was passionate about football and a fan long before entering the world of politics.

A young Henry Kissinger flew Germany in 1938, together with his family. Later, in 1943, becoming a US citizen. He had a military education and returned to Germany and Hannover to chase Gestapo officers, getting medals for his services. Later becoming a Doctor graduate from Harvard, and later taking his place in politics, serving the US president Richard Nixon when he attended office in 1968.

In a special story published by The Guardian, you get a number of fun facts related to Henry Kissingers passion for football, and attending games in the UK and of course talks of his relations to German clubs Greuter Fürth and Bayern Munich, as well as his friendship with Franz Beckenbauer.

Henry Kissinger visited both Blundell Park and Stamford Bridge to attend games of football, being recognized by former forward of Chelsea, Steve Finnieston. He also tried to bring the 1986 World Cup to USA, but failed, being happy that his nation later hosted the tournament in 1994.

During talks with Sovjet leader Leonid Bresjnev, Kissinger brought Garrincha into the conversations as they both had a passion for the game. This to try to ease the tension between the two and hope for a bridge of understanding.

A fantastic man and fascinating person has left us this week, and to have been a passionate follower of football counts for us writing this tribute, RIP Henry Kissinger.
