Who remembers Ken Fogarty from the grand life of football stardom. In the silence and shadows of the big stars in English football he managed to carve out a wonderful career as he became a legendary character of Stockport County and also had a bit of glam factor as he played with and against the stars in the NASL.
Embed from Getty ImagesFogarty born in Manchester made his debut as a first teamer at Edgeley Park just turned 17 and spend a long time in that club, playing for “The Hatters” from 1972 to 1979, adding up a total of 296 league appearance and scoring 6 goals.
He had a short loan spell with Los Angeles Skyhawks during his days with Stockport County but in 1979 he makes the move permanent and joins Fort Lauderdale Strikers, teams up with players such as George Best, Teofilo Cubillas and Gerd Muller.
As the stars fade or moves out, Fogarty stays put and spends the next seasons until the fold of the NASL in 1984, adding up a total of 124 appearances and as the franchise moves to Minnesota he is on the truck with them and continues playing in indoor soccer as the professional life continues in that environment.
Ken Fogarty was probably not a glamour player in England staying loyal to Stockport County over all those seasons, but as so many other lower league players, he managed to get his “star time” in the NASL, showing that lower league footballers are also able to play at the very highest level and shows that everything i possible
