Vincent Kompany who rejoined the club from Manchester City after last season, but had to step down from the coaching duties after a terrible start. Simon Davies, most known for his time at Manchester United, took over the duties and with also Frank Vercauteren joining it became a joint venture of those three men.

The season was not in all a success and ending 8th will not be satisfactory for such a great club. Vincent Kompany might have to step up even more to be able to help the club back to it’s old heights. At 34 he can still probably play on for another two or three years and cement the club back in the top.

Over the years they have sold players to the major leagues in Europe and not been able to build on their best for a longer period of time, that has made them suffer, especially in Europe.

The club last one the championship in 2016/17, and their great runs in Europe goes back to the 70’s and 80’s were managed to build some fantastic teams over the years and became the number one club in “BeNeLux”. The best Dutch and Belgian players moved to Anderlecht and it was possible to keep them for a while and build great teams.

Their main rival in Belgium, FC Brugge, is doing well and have managed to establish some type of momentum in Champions League football and often qualified for the group stages and of course been able to compete financially because of their great run in Europe.

The purple and white are a team that belongs in the top and for some reason they are missed among the giants in Champions League action. Ajax and PSV have in recent time been better and are probably above Anderlecht in fame, even Brugge looks more powerfull.

We will see how the progress will be under the current confusing leadership of Kompany, Davies and Vercauteren and hopefully the club will find their way back to the top in a short period of time.

We all know about all those great players from the past including legendary names such as Rob Rensenbrink, Frank Vercauteren, Moren Olsen, Frank Arnesen, Arie Haan, Romelu Lukaku, Paul Van Himst, Dennis Praet and Youri Tielemans, but who are the once that can bring this club back to stardom.

Samir Nasri who we all know from English clubs such as West Ham, Arsenal and Man City joined Anderlecht last season and could be a key player going forward. They also added Kemar Roofe from Leeds to their squad and his presence could also flourish in a team that eventually will get back to the top.
