Darwin Nunez is at the moment flying high with Benfica. The 22 year old joined the club from Almeria a year ago and at 1.87m he is the type of forward we do love to see, and so far he has scored 10 goals in 34 league appearances and of course scoring two against Barcelona in the Champions League.

His boss is Jorge Jesus, a very well known coach in Portugal being brought back to Benfica in 2020, signing a two year deal and hopefully this season we will see his team in the structure and that a bit of an finished article is to be seen with Nunez being the athlete and key player on top.

Dawin Nunez started his senior playing career with Uruguayan top club Penarol, but after just 14 league games he was spotted and moved to Spain and Almeria. After 30 games he had a nice tally of goals adding up 16 hits and then spotted and Europe was next.

He is very quick and can dribble and not afraid to take on opponents and making those vital dribbles that either set up team mates or finish on goal himself. Few players might get the biggest headlines before they have tested their skills in Champions League action.

Darwin Nunez made his mark against Barcelona and will of course be on the list of candidates to take the next step in football very soon, but we do not believe that he will be on any doors before the summer and that Benfica can enjoy this campaign with one of the most promising forwards in the game up front in their team.

Nunez has not been seen that many times in the Uruguay senior team making his debut in 2019 and so far playerd four times, scored twice. At his young age he will certainly be a player that could take the heritage from Edinson Cavani and Diego Forlan.

Before Darwin Nunez scored his goals v. Barca he had earlier also scored a hat trick in the last campaign of the CL against Lech Poznan, a 4-2 win.

Almeria cashed in on their talent getting paid €24 million in full with all extra’s included. Benfica might see a double fee collected if selling to one of the top clubs and will Darwin Nunez be the next big name in footblall, Uruguay can of course enjoy the progress and hopefully again be seen as a major team in World Cup football.

Benfica are currently on top in Portugal, but only a point in front of Porto and Sporting, so it will be a hard race until the end of the season, but great to see the majors in top as always as the three clubs never have been relegated from the top flight and manage to dominate their game in a very special way.

To follow Darwin Nunez this season and going forward will be exciting and if he gets the chance to join Real Madrid, few or no one will be surprised if the move will send this player to a level that would be to the top of the total.

Benfica and Darwin Nunez will today take on Portimonense at home, and they are massive favorites against their current opponent staying sixth in the table.
