Alun Evans, teenage sensation and his three goals v. Bayern Munich

Alun Evans was a teenage sensation moving to Anfield from Wolves in 1968. The transfer fee was £110 000 and at that time the highest fee paid for a teenager in Britain. Evans made the move after one single season in the Wolves first team.

The move to Liverpool looked good in his first season ending runners-up to Leeds in the league and scoring on his debut, a 4-0 win v. Leicester. He finished that season with 7 goals, playing 33 league games in total.

His next two seasons was a bit up’s and down’s and with injuries and off field incidents his place was firstly under pressure and finally it was game off with a certain Kevin Keegan moving into that top position alongside John Toshack.

But before his bow, he had a sensational game v. Bayern Munich in the Inter City Fairs Cup, scoring a wonderful hat trick in a 3-0 win, seeing Liverpool through to the next round with a 4-1 in total. It showed that Alun Evans had a grand top level and that his potential never hit the highest heights.

Another point to notice was Alun’s appearances in the 1971 FA Cup, scoring in the semi’s v. Everton and playing in the final later on against Arsenal who we all know ended as winners and took home magic and historical 70/71 “The Double”.

Bill Shankly didn’t see a future for Alun Evans, and at the age of 23 he was sold to Aston Villa. It all ended with 69 league games and 21 goals scored on his league outings for Liverpool. Aston Villa, newly promoted to the 2nd tier, paid £72 000 for his services and a new lease of life looked close.

He stayed at Aston Villa for two and half years before making a new move, this time to Walsall, and ironically leaving Villa Park in a season that the club clinched promotion back to the top flight, and also being a sub in the League Cup final 1-0 win v. Norwich City.

After a run of games at Walsall, Evans moved to Australia and played down under for a few seasons before hanging up his boots after a leg injury. He started a life in different trades.

Sometimes you see young players with a huge potential just fading out of the limelight and certainly Alun Evans never really fulfilled the life of being a top flight footballer through out his career and had to see him fall down the divisions, and fading off to Australia, being at one time the most valuable asset in British football.

Ivan Toney, Mohamed Salah and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, all the latest transfer talk

Ivan Toney is a close target for West Ham, but the heavy price tag on his shoulder could see him playing at Brentford also next season. To pay £35million for a player that has not really made it at top level is a risky affair.

Alex Oxlaide-Chamberlain could be leaving in the summer for a fee of £17million, a risky business case with the injury list in hand, but of course at his best a great player, could we see him return to the south coast, possibly a player that could fit at Brighton and Southampton.

Mohamed Salah is a close target for Paris as they prepare for new recruitments in the summer, to be able to get their hands on that Champions League trophy, and of course keep other clubs in France at a distance.

Paul Onuachu is hoping he will be able to leave Genk in the summer and make his dream move to Arsenal. The 26 year old Nigerian with a previous life at Midtjylland is a close target and could be a sensation in Premier League action.

Diogo Dalot looks certain to leave Manchester United in the summer, and AC Milan are front runners with their loan move possibly made permanent. The 22 year old defender moved to Old Trafford from FC Porto in 2018, and since made 20 league appearances, adding the 17 played for AC Milan on loan this season, his experience is growing.

Mbaye Diagne is a player that looks likely to be staying in the Premier League and not follow West Bromwich down, something that looks very likely. Brighton are said to be the favorites and would be a great addition for The Seagulls.

Marquinhos is a close target for Chelsea. Thomas Tuchel is eager to reunite with his former player at PSG. The 26 year old defender has been with Paris since 2013 when joining from Roma, a fee could be difficult to guess, but it will be difficult to get the captain of such a team to leave.

Arsenal are foreseeing a big sale of players to fund new exciting prospects. Alexander Lacazette, Eddie Nketiah and Reiss Nelson are three players that might be shipped out, loan men Joe Willock and Ainsley Maitland Niles could also be on their way out either on a season long loan or in a permanent deal. No potensial clubs are listed, but Newcastle could be one club to consider both players.

Declan Rice could be moving to Manchester City in the summer, but it’s likely that the England international will short list his next move and take his time to consider and the most likely happening is that he will continue to play for West Ham.
