Wales legend Gareth Bale has announced his retirement aged 33.

The forward joined Los Angeles FC just seven months ago, but has seemingly made his decision after Wales’ disappointing World Cup campaign – the first since 1958.

After a 17-year playing career that took him from Southampton to Real Madrid, Bale retires as one of the most successful British players of all-time and undoubtedly the best to ever don the crimson shirt of Wales.

Ray Parlour makes his view on different topics regarding Arsenal and their current form, interesting thoughts from the former Arsenal legend, playing 339 league games over a period of twelve seasons from 1992 to 2004.

What has Mikel Arteta done specifically to ensure the level of consistency at Arsenal?
What I like about Mikel Arteta’s team is that they start games so well. In the first 15 minutes they come out of the traps and are right at it.

I always got told as a youth team player, ‘always make sure you win that first tackle’ because that puts the team on the front foot and Mikel Arteta has done that.

Even in the second half, Arsenal are really quick whereas a lot of teams start slowly to try and ease themselves into the game.

Ode To Lionel Messi

For the longest time, it’s been almost sacrilegious to compare Lionel Messi to Pele and Diego Maradona for the simple reason of the former not having a World Cup medal. 

Older football fans will point to Pele’s heroics in 1958 and 1970, and Maradona’s role in securing the World Cup in 1986, as evidence that the duo are the greatest to ever have played the sport. For 15 years, this was a hard stance to argue against – even as the genius of Messi made itself more apparent with each passing season.
