World Cup update, Capello
waiting on Heinz

Fabio Capello has not yet showed anyone how to field a great team in a World Cup tournament. The man that has won almost everything in football and been in charge of Real Madrid is under great pressure. Has Mr Capello been too smart or is he just waiting on Heinz, article continues

There are always critics when things goes bad and you are far below expectated level. England was in a group described as the best since The Beatles, but so far this has looked as a "long and winding road" for a team and a country that just have "yesterday" to talk about.

Capello can so far be described as "the fool on the hill" and the Italian who was 64 yesterday could ask the English players, fans and FA,

"Give me your answer, fill in a form, mine for evermore, will you still need me, will you still feed me, when I'm 64."

Alan Smith, previously with England, Arsenal and Leicester, said that this situation looks like the one he experienced in 1992, when England started badly in the European Championships, and things went from bad to worse.

To see Capello, such a fantastic coach and manager, struggle so much with a team that looked unstoppable in the qualifications is not just a goalkeeper problem, the injuries of Beckham and Ferdinand or the use of Emile Heskey.

The situation is that this England team has been more of a favourite than ever before. Wayne Rooney, John Terry, Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard are all top quality players and three of them could be playing in their last World Cup tournament. It's a personal make or break.

Steven Gerrard has so far been England's best player, and he has done his job, and he should be prepared for the job and has the experience to be the captain of England.

Fabio Capello picked a number of players for the World Cup that could be a bit difficult to understand, and maybe the England coach has been too clever in his squad selection.

But this will only be things to use as excuses and something that never will be answerred. This will also be what Capello will be judged on, the players he pick and how they perform.

You could go on and tell Capello everything about structure, players to use and how to play, but why should such a great coach not know how to field his best team ?

Why should experts in England tell Capello how to do his job, why is the man doing what he is doing ?

Let's hope that England will experience something of a Heinz effect in the game against Slovenia and it will see England through to the next stage.
