Liverpool fans believe their club
is the best in the World, and they should, but they are no longer
attractive for managers that will be involved in the Champions League
this season.
The name Harry Redknapp has been mentioned, but no one would believe
that he will leave Tottenham and not compete in the Champions League.
Kenny Dalglish did everything at Liverpool as a player and manager 20
years ago, and he managed to win the league with Blackburn and reach the
FA Cup with Newcastle, but during this decade he has not been involved
in management.
David Moyes and Luis van Gaal are other names. Moyes must be mad if he
decides to take a walk in the park and move from Goodison to Anfield.
Luis van Gaal has just started at Bayern.
Sven Goran Eriksson joined Notts County last season and was also in
charge at Manchester City and the only thing that counted for Eriksson
was money.
Liverpool could be, what they call, a selling club. Steven Gerrard and
Fernando Torres could be worth as much as £ 100 million and to sell them
would probably be an option.
Former Liverpool star David Fairclough believes that Dalglish would be
the ideal candidate, but to get Kenny back would probably not be wise.
He has also been picked to find the next manager, and to see him point
at himself looks a bit strange.
Former Tottenham manager Martin Jol could be in the frame. so could
Ronald Koeman, but the most likely choice would be Roy Hodgson.
Hodgson has done a great job at Fulham, but will he jump ship at Craven
Cottage and walk out on the club that gave him a chance in the Premier
League ?
Mark Hughes looks like a wise alternative, but the former Blackburn and
Man City manager has not won any trophies as a manager and not been
involved at Champions League level.
The decission to let Benitez leave could be the start of a difficult
time at Anfield, and with Torres and Gerrard not certain about their
future, there might be dark shadows over Anfield.
