Everyone are convinced that you
can't win the Premier League with U.21 players, but could you manage to
do it with players all in their 30's ?
The way AC Milan managed to keep their experienced players fit until
their 40's shows that you can
play on at the very top for a long time.
Edwin van der Sar is still one of the best goalkeepers in the
World and first choice at Manchester United. Mark Schwarzer is
also a player in his late 30's. Both players were signed on free
transfer.
If you go through the back line, Sol Campbell is a name that
would come to mind. Sol was signed by Arsenal from Notts County on a
free, and played magnificant for the Gunners last season.
Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes are both players in their 30's
and could probably be signed on a free, with them both playing on short
term contracts. The same is the situation for Gary Neville.
Ted Sheringham played in the Premier League past his 40's and a player
that still is playing is Birmingham forward Kevin Phillips. The
former England international knows where the goal is.
Kevin Davies who is a forward at Bolton is also one of the best in the
Premier and one that could do a job.
Emile Heskey will travel with England to the World Cup. The 32
year old forward will probably not be the most expensive player to sign
when he sometime in the future departs from Aston Villa.
Frank Lampard and Michael Ballack are both experienced and
in their 30's. A certain Didier Drogba is also in his 30's and
still regarded as one of the best in the World. Rio Ferdinand is
an England international in his 30's.
So would this team be a league winner contender,
van der Sar - Neville G, Neville P, Ferdinand, Campbell (Carvalho) -
Ballack, Lampard, Scholes, Giggs - Drogba, Heskey (Phillips) (Davies)
No one would doubt this team and no one could not count this as a team
with Premier League winning potential, or ?
We will most certainly see more experienced players in the best teams.
Inter Milan is a great example of a team with great experience that won
everything possible in one season.
