Players have been called this and
that and former Leicester City midfielder Junior Lewis got the nickname
"Bambi on ice" and often compared to a donkey. He was in a way a symbol
of a player that managed to reach Premier League level, but never was
supposed to get that chance.
Lewis was released as a youngster at Fulham, played 6 league games while
at Craven Cottage, and had to take a step down into non-league football.
He got the chance to play in the league system again in 1999 after six
years absence.
Junior was an amazing player. He spent a long period of time with
non-league teams, helping them to promotion. He was part of teams at
Gillingham, Hull and Brighton that was promoted.
Despite being compared with a donkey at Leicester, you must look
at Lewis as a player that has done magnificant service for the clubs he
played for.
Lewis played for Gillingham, Leicester, Brighton, Swindon, Hull and
Brentford, over a period of 8 years, playing 183 league games in total.
Lewis is retired now, and part of the coaching staff at Bradford. For a
player once described as "Bambi on Ice" and being compared to a donkey,
he will probably be remembered as a good player with a descent career in
proffesional football.
So who is to decide what a good footballer is, or what it takes to
become a great proffesional. What makes you "The Full Monty" ?
