Kasper Schmeichel is one of the most interesting young goalkeeper
prospects around, but so far he has been mostly out on loan or playing
4th tier football. Schmeichel has been linked with big clubs such as
Bayern Munich and he has a past at Man City
He has some big boots to fill if he wants to go in his fathers
footsteps. Peter Schmeichel was one of the best goalkeepers in the World
and his time at Man Utd stands out as the best in his career.
Kasper has experienced a lot at an early age, getting the first team
gloves for a period as a teenager with Man City and also playing out on
loan at Cardiff with great success.
Sven Goran Eriksson knows quality when he sees it and he was certainly
involved when Schmeichel was convinced to join Notts County.
Notts County was promoted to League 1 after winning League 2 this season.
The club has, despite a number of financial setbacks, managed to keep
the focus and gained promotion.
Schmeichel has been linked with a number of top European clubs including
Champions League finalist Bayern Munich. He could probably leave Meadow
Lane this summer but he must play at a club where he can be number one.
He has not yet played at full international level and was not included
in the Danish squad for the 2010 Wolrd Cup finals in South Africa.
Schmeichel is 23 years of age and has played a number of games for the
Danish U.21's and he will, if he continues his progress, be a strong
contender to get a chance at full international level.
But who will give Schmeichel a real chance at the highest level.
Goalkeepers such as Gordon Banks, David Seaman and Shay Given had to go
a bit back to get forward, this could also be the case with young
Kasper.
A certain Dave Beasant followed his Wimbledon from the third tier to the
top and into the England squad, via Newcastle and Chelsea, so there are
a number of ways to reach your highest level.
