Newcastle promotion, not just a
walk in the park

Newcastle is back in the Premier League after an impressive season in the Championship. The Toons grabbed 102 points in 46 games which is a great and difficult achievement. Chris Hughton and his players did it in style

The Championship is the 2nd tier in England, but if you look all over Europe this division is probably among the 10 best. The fact that Newcastle manage to grab 102 points from 46 games is really just fantastic.

Alan Shearer and Iain Dowie was brought in last season, and took over from Chris Hughton who had been in temporary charge after Joe Kinnear had to withdraw. Shearer and Dowie failed with their escape plan and the sensation was a fact, Newcastle United had been relegated.

Shearer waited for a decission, but owner Mike Ashley beleived that the financial demands from Shearer was "from another planet" and he decided to go in a different direction.

Hughton was again placed in temporary charge during the summer and he managed to keep the players fit and worked well with them. This was probably not a big risk to take, since Hughton had been in charge of coaching since his arrival in 2008.

Hughton knew the players and Ashley knew that things would be taken care off. Pre-season went well, despite seeing a number of players leave. It was at this time not certain if Ashley would stay on as an owner, but nothing happened and it was soon a new season coming up.

Hughton remained in charge, despite a number of rumours about people to appoint as the new Newcastle manager. Newcastle started well and Hughton managed to lead his team to the top of the table and was named manager of the month both in August and September.

The board decided to stick with Hughton and things have since progressed in the right direction. A number of players left but the squad at Newcastle was probably to big and it was not easy to keep so many stars happy with a life on the bench.

Hughton transformed a bad performing team into a winnig machine and hopefully he will stick with the majority of his players also next season. If you manage 102 points and gets promoted you will manage well in the division above.

To see Newcastle back in the best party is fantastic. This is a club with a fantastic fanbase and they belong only one place and that is the Premier League.
