Sir Alex Ferguson has shown his fantastic skill over the years
when it comes to finding new players after letting his super stars leave
for heavy transfer fees. The gap after Ronaldo looks almost filled with
new players coming through.
Eric Cantona, Peter
Schmeichel, David Beckham, Ruud Van Nistelrooy and Cristiano Ronaldo all
left Man Utd when they and the club was on the top.
Cantona retired and everyone thought it would almost be impossible to
replace the French wonder, but Sir Alex never looked back and brought in
players that fitted the bill and managed to keep to club on track.
The departure of Peter Schmeichel was difficult to handle and it was not
really before Edwin van der Sar arrived that the gap was finally closed.
This season was predicted to be a very difficult one for Sir Alex with
Ronaldo's exit and not really signing any big names in front of the
season. Valencia and Owen came in, but none of them were looked up on as
real replacements for Ronaldo.
Owen has not been a big hit at Man Utd, and as many predicted only been
a squad player, but he has contributed well in a number of games and his
goalscoring touch and experience could be a vital key to success when
the season finished in a month or so.
New signing Valencia has surprised in a positive direction and he has
shown promise of greatness. The return of Nani and Park has also been
very positive.
Nani has turned his career around after Ronaldo left and the young
Portugal international has the skill to fill the gap after Ronaldo, but
he needs a few more seasons to really see if that is possible.
The new recruite from Molde, Mame Biram Dieouf, is also a player that in
the future will be interesting to watch so is defender Ritchie De Laet.
De Laet was signed from Stoke and a number of eyebrows were lifted when
Sir Alex used money on the 21 year old former Royal Antwerpen defender.
Federico Macheda is another young prospect that we will see more of in
the future. Man Utd has a long tradition of bringing forward talent and
that will be a success formula that will help the club in their chase
for success.
