Arsene Wenger and his
Arsenal is known for their fantastic display, but consistancy and the
title trophy hunt has not been at the same level as it was in the years
of Henry, Pires, Bergkamp and Vieira, but it looks closer and closer to
a turn in the right direction
The big question is not if Arsenal will be back winning major trophies,
but rather when it will happen. Arsenal has the right mix at the moment
and hopefully they will keep their key players over the summer so that
they can build on the positives from this season.
They are still involved in the Champions League and among tho top teams
in the Premier League, but no one believes that Arsenal will win any of
those trophies this season.
Wenger brought back Sol Campbell and the experienced former England
international has enjoyed his return. He has covered well for William
Gallas and this shows that players in their mid 30's can do a great job
if they are able to stay fit and focused.
AC Milan has shown over the years that they can manage to keep old
horses focused and fit and make them key players in the team. Chelsea
has also a very experienced side with most of their key players in the
early 30's.
Sir Alex Ferguson is a bit in front in the way he brings on young talent
and manage to win titles and silverware during a building period. This
has not been the case for Arsenal but the way the team play at the
moment makes everyone certain that they will lift trophies in a season
or two.
Arsenal with and without Henry, has been there to see for all of us.
That has been the difference between failure and success.
The goalkeeper position has also been a key to Arsenal success. David
Seaman and Jens Lehmann both had a key role in the winning teams, but so
far Almunia has not been at the same level. Every team that wins
silverware has not only a good goalkeeper they have a great one.
This is something that Wenger must address and he needs to be certain
that points are not lost because of big goalkeeper errors. One or two
mistakes can be tolerated but rapid repeats of errors will to costly.
