Liverpool have signed Argentinian international Maxi Rodriguez from Spanish club Atletico Madrid.

The 29 year old midfielder is a close friend of Javier Mascherano and will line up with his good pall, after passing a medical this Wednesday.

Rodriguez has signed a deal which will keep him at Anfield for the next 3,5 years.

The deal is subject to an international clearance, but both parties are shure this will not disturb the deal to go through.

Rodrigues could be in the Liverpool squad when the play Stoke on Saturday

Reds boss Rafael Benitez is a keen admirer and describes Rodriguez as a player that is good to get in to the box and that he is a good finisher.

Benitez also believe that Rodrguez can be a fine contributer in number of goals after scoring around 15 goals a season while playing in La Liga.

Rodriguez is also a player that can be used in several positions which is a great benefit for any team.

Rodrguez has not been in his best for for Atletico, but has impressed while on international duty for Argentina and will most certainly be in their squad for the 2010 World Cup.

Argentinian players has in the past managed to adjust well to the English game and Benitez also believes that will be the case for Rodriguez.

Benitez has been busy on the January transfer window with Rodriguez now coming in and seeing Andrea Dossena and Andrej Voronin depart. Dossena joined Napoli and Voronin has agreed to a move to Dinamo Moscow.

Specualtions about Ryan Babel leaving Anfield is still in the air, but the fact that a £ 9 million offer from Birmingham was turned down makes it pssible for Babel to believe that he still has a future at Anfield.
