Craig Levein made his
name in management with Hearts. He was in charge at Tynecastle from 2000
to 2004 before being tempted by Leicester City.
His time with Leicester City never gave Levein the oppertunity to shine.
He was sacked from his position at Leicester City after only 15 months
in charge.
Leicester City had an experienced squad when Levein took over and he
later admitted that too many changes were done too fast. A difficult
financial situation, at the Midland club, made him do business on a
shoestring.
Levein brought players such as Matty Fryatt, Iain Hume and Patrick
Kisnorbo to the club. All of them became key players.
After being sacked at Leicester it took a while to get back in
management. He jumped at the chance to get back in work with 2nd
division club Raith Rovers in September 2006.
He experienced success at Raith and after just one month in charge
Dundee United came along and wanted him to be their next manager after
Craig Brewster. Levein was appointed manager at Tannadise in October
2006.
The former Scottish international has done wonders at Dundee United and
established the club as one of the best in the SPL. A club that
struggled heavilly when Levein came in.
He is often compared with superman, with a simularity to the actor
Christopher Reeve. When he first arrived at Leicester everyone was very
hopefull and thought the new messiah had arrived.
Scottish football is no longer what it was and the players to build a
strong 11 from is few. Darren Fletcher from Manchester United and Dean
Gordon at Sunderland are really the only two big names.
Scotland has great footballing traditions and in the past some fantastic
footballers have been born in this country. Denis Law, Kenny Dalglish
and Billy Bremner are three names, and all of them experienced to play
with their country in the World Cup.
Scotland qualified for the World Cup finals in 74,78,82,86 and 1990, but
never managed to get out of the group stages.
Levein was in the 1990 World Cup squad and played in the tournement in
Italy.
A number of names are in the hat, but with former bosses Alex McLeish
and Walter Smith out of the race it looks certain that Levein will be
one of the best candidates for the job.
