Liverpool used to be the best
club in Europe, will they ever return ?
-
The 70's
and 80's was dominated by Liverpool, not only in England but also in
Europe, is it rubbish to believe it will happen again

Rafael Benitez is
currently in charge of Liverpool. He recently signed a five year
extension to his contract, but lately a number of fans would like to see
another man in the Anfield manager seat.
Benitez has a good track record at Liverpool and they ended runners-up
in the league last season. He has won the FA Cup and the Champions
League while in charge but still fans are impatient and wants the old
time back.
Could Liverpool, if they go with the mob, start a slide towards
relegation, such things have happened to big clubs before. Newcastle and
Leeds are two examples, Man City have also that experience.
The way Liverpool dominated the game in the 70's and 80's is rare and
people that remember this era will of course want it back, but will it
be realistic ?
If Liverpool would like to see success in the League they need to do it
their way and not the way things have been done at Chelsea and Man Utd.
Xabi Alonso left Liverpool in front of this season and Benitez has so
far not been able to replace the Spanish international. With Gerrard and
Torres injured there is no way the Anfield club can fight for a Premier
Leauge trophy.
Liverpool was before a club that found talent in the lower leagues and
seldom bought big names. They also managed to pin point the right
signings.
Players such as Peter Cormack, Kenny Dalglish and Greame Souness was
during the 70's big money signings but it was money well spent. They
seldom made bad moves in the transfer market and had a fantastic
abillity to hit bulls eye with their signings.
This cannot be said about Benitez, who has used a fantastic amount of
money to buy himself into the position to fight for a Champions League
position every season.
Liverpool can in the future win a Premier League title but to believe
that the 70's and 80's will return to Anfield is like dreaming of
another return, to see JC back on earth.
