CEO of Liverpool FC, Rick Parry, has
been elected to the 15 man board of the newly-formed European Club
Association. The organisation is the result of a compromise between UEFA
and the now disbanded G14 group of clubs.
It will be made up of 103 of
Europe's most successful clubs, with at least one representative from each
of the 53 national associations.
Joining Mr Parry will be Chelsea CEO Peter Kenyon, the only other English
representative on the board. "My remit is to represent the group that
elected me" said Parry. "This body has far greater credibility than G14,
both with fellow clubs and Uefa, because G14 was always seen as an elite
group. Now we have clubs with widely diverging interests."
This vote of confidence from his peers follows a difficult year for Mr
Parry. Unpopular co-owner Tom Hicks labelled him a "disaster" in April,
having attempted unsuccessfully to remove him from office.
Parry himself has described it as "a nightmare - a dreadful year".
